Dog-Friendly Seaside Getaway at The Breaks in Saltburn-by-the-sea

Rainbow beach huts, wide open sandy beaches and the oldest working, water balanced funicular tram in Great Britain! Saltburn-by-the-sea has lots to offer in the way of dog-friendly activities, and you can explore them all from a beautiful Victorian town house, The Breaks.

Imagine taking the whole family on a seaside holiday and all staying under the one roof. Whether it’s that special occasion or just a long overdue get together, The Breaks has space for even the largest of families. The 6-bedroom townhouse is full of character and the perfect base to explore the historic, seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-sea.

The Breaks sits just 100 metres from the sea front

Renovated in time to open for the summer season of 2022, we were so lucky to be invited along for an autumn weekend getaway with some of our family. We couldn’t have asked for a better holiday home. It ticked all the boxes for us.

This spectacular property has everything you need to enjoy that precious family time in comfort. Stepping through the front door you are met with charm and original features throughout. High ceilings, antique furniture and traditional decor are all indications of its Victorian past.

A warm welcome……

The Breaks welcome up to four dogs to accompany you on your holiday and are huge dog lovers themselves. We found a large basket filled with two bowls and a jar of treats along with plenty of old towels. Now towels are something we usually always bring with us, taking up valuable car space, however having two water loving spaniels that bring half the beach back home with them, they are a necessity. It was lovely this time not to have to pack the car with our own towels for a change; a bonus for us! There was also a comfy dog bed.

For the humans………

You couldn’t miss the huge luxury hamper left for us, brimming with goodies from amazing local businesses. What a gesture! The basket included: a beautiful keyring made from sea-glass found on Saltburn beach itself – handmade with love by Waves. Cleveland Way, handcrafted gin and tonic from Daisy Distillery, a family run business in Saltburn. Talking Tide craft beer, another local business that shouts about how incredible the local area is. A creative welcome card designed by That Design Studio, a graphic designer whose art is inspired by the Northeast region. Plus, chocolate, coffee and biscuits.

There’s room for everyone at The Breaks…….

Families will enjoy the huge, modern open plan kitchen/dining room, we certainly found it the perfect space to enjoy a meal together on our first night’s stay there. Fully kitted out with all the appliances you would need during your stay from microwave to popcorn machine, The Breaks really have thought of everything when it comes to dining and entertaining.

After our meal and once the dish washer was loaded, we headed into the cosy living room and enjoyed wine and snacks whilst watching a film on the smart TV.

The Breaks understand that some dogs like to snuggle up to their humans so kindly provide throws to cover the sofas with.

On warm, summer evenings the handy bifold doors in the lounge open out, leading to the secure garden where you can enjoy drinks and a BBQ. They even have an outdoor cinema! (Hence the popcorn machine).

Extended off the living room is a handy and again well-equipped utility room. You’ll find a washer and tumble dryer, a WC and useful items for families with young babies such as a high chair, changing mat and travel cot.

After an evening chatting and enjoying each other’s company, it was off to the bedrooms to get some much-needed sleep before a day of exploring Saltburn. The Breaks sleeps 12 and with 6 huge bedrooms, you are truly spoilt for choice.

We slept in the very grand super-sized king bedroom, with huge bay window and sea views. The beautiful fireplace with a pears soap picture hanging above it makes it feel very traditional.

Aswell as a family bathroom, there’s a wet room and one bedroom has its own ensuite.

You’ll be pleased to know there’s free Wi-Fi to enjoy while you are there, a very handy outdoor shower – perfect for rinsing the dogs off after an afternoon on the beach and even a couple of surf boards if you fancied giving it a try! Or if you want a more relaxing afternoon, why not curl up on the sofa or sit in the garden on the outdoor furniture and enjoy a book. There are shelves full of them. For the kids (or even the big kids) there is a mini pool table and some toys on the top floor.

We, along with the spaniels, loved our weekend at The Breaks so much we really didn’t want to leave. This attractive holiday home not only provides all the essentials needed for a comfortable week/weekend away, it’s also full of character which makes the experience all the more special.

Our stay at the breaks was complimentary as a PR stay. All photographs and opinions are my own.

Make sure you visit…….

The beach! Just 100 metres from The Breaks is Saltburn’s beautiful sandy beach. During the summer months dogs are welcome to the right of the pier however the ban ends September 30th meaning they can enjoy even more space.

A trip to Saltburn wouldn’t be complete without riding the oldest funicular cliff tram in Britain. Saltburn Cliff Tram opened in 1884 and links the Victorian town with the only remaining pleasure pier on the Northeast and Yorkshire coast. Dogs can join in the ride for free and the operators have lots of information about its interesting past.

Tickets cost £1.50 for adults and £1 for children.

The colourful beach huts on the promenade. Available to hire and are dog friendly. Visit Marshall’s Beach Huts for more information.

In the heart of Saltburn’s town you’ll find Signals. A dog friendly cafe/bar offering delicious breakfasts, lunches and brunches. We stopped off for a yummy, sweet treat of hot chocolate and whipped cream topped with churros and chocolate sauce. Highly recommended.
