As a family, we’ve been heading to Keswick in the Lake District for years now—way before we even got the spaniels! Most of our trips have been with Keswick Holiday Homes, a friendly, family-run business that offers a personal touch when it comes to booking. They have a small collection of unique self-catering holiday spots around Keswick, and we can’t recommend them enough, if you’re thinking about a visit! Recently, we were lucky enough to be invited to stay at their newest property, Brundholme House.
“Brundholme House is a warm, welcoming semi-detached house, located at the foot of Latrigg.”

Outside this semi detached property you’ll find parking for two cars and EV charging which is charged separately via App/QR code. Sleeping up to six guests and welcoming two dogs, there are so many things we absolutely loved about this place as dog owners! First off, when you walk in, you’re greeted by a roomy and bright hallway with a boot rack and plenty of coat hooks for all your outdoor gear and dog leads. Just off that, there’s a big ‘Boot room’ where you can dry the dogs off before heading into the living room or up the stairs—don’t forget to bring your own dog towels! It’s got all the basics like a sink, washer, and tumble dryer, plus a mop for the fully tiled floor, a heated towel rail, and a clothes horse for drying out your wet gear, and a hoover. This convenient room made life so much easier with dogs that are always going to get muddy when you’re out in the Lake District.

As you step off the hallway, you walk into the spacious, open-plan living and dining area. It’s presented with modern decor, great lighting, a TV, lots of family games, and lovely wood floors—definitely a plus if you’re traveling with dogs! There’s a large dining table perfect for family dinners or hanging out with friends, and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. We were thrilled to find a welcome basket filled with a mix of tea, coffee, and some biscuits too! Just a heads-up, though—you’ll need to bring your own dog bowls. A sweet little touch was the cosy throws left for the sofas, which were perfect for snuggling up as the night drew in. There are French doors off the dining area that lead to a secure garden, which was such a treat for us since we rarely stay in places with secure outdoor spaces. Even though we usually handle it fine, it really made me think how nice it was not to worry about our spaniels wandering off. Being responsible dog owners, we made sure to clean up after them. I can only imagine how great this spot would be in the summer, dining outside surrounded by trees!

The view of the back of Brundholne House from the garden. There’s an outdoor furniture set, a washing line and a handy outdoor hose – which we used to hose down the spaniels after a muddy walk.
As you head up the stairs, you’ll see more of the stylish decor, and to your right, there’s a stunning sunroom. It’s got two wicker chairs, some blankets, and a real flame effect heater that makes it just perfect. I really loved spending some time here on our first evening with a glass of wine while listening to the rain falling on the roof. You can also step through the French doors to the wrap-around balcony, where you get the most amazing view of Latrigg and the surrounding fells. Opposite the sunroom, there’s a little hallway that takes you to the family bathroom, which comes with a bathtub and a nice rainfall shower. Off this hallway are three good-sized bedrooms. The master bedroom features a king-size bed, a Smart TV, and fitted wardrobes. Then there’s the second twin bedroom with two single beds and more fitted wardrobes. And for the kids, the third bedroom has a cool set of bunk beds along with a chest of drawers and some hanging space up top.

Discover Keswick during your stay at Brundholme House!
Staying at Brundholme House means you’re in the perfect spot to experience some amazing local walks. First up is Latrigg—if you haven’t checked out Keswick’s own fell yet, you definitely should! The trail starts just a hop away from the front door! At the end of the road, you’ll find The Filling Station, a cool converted petrol station that serves the tastiest all-day breakfasts—just what you need to fuel up for a day out on the fells. Plus, the house backs onto the lovely Fitz Park, with its riverside views and wide-open spaces, great for a leisurely stroll. Don’t forget to pop into Cafe West for a coffee and a treat—it’s dog-friendly, too! Just a 15-minute stroll away is Lake Derwentwater where you can take on the 10-mile circular trail—check out our blog post here. And if you’re up for a bit of an adventure, why not conquer Catbells? Grab a boat from Keswick Launch to Hawes End and start the trail up to the summit for some amazing views of Derwentwater and the Borrowdale Valley. From the Leisure Centre, you can pick up the Keswick to Threlkeld railway path for an easy walk that takes you over the River Greta and along the old Victorian railway and into Threlkeld. Or just head into town—it’s only 5 minutes away— and check out everything this bustling town has to offer, from dog-friendly pubs, cafes, and shops!

Overall, we had an absolutely unforgettable experience at Brundholme House! It was nothing short of the perfect getaway for our trip to Keswick. Nestled in a stunning location, it offered breathtaking views and the cosy interior made us feel instantly at home. The place was wonderfully equipped, providing us with everything we could possibly need for our stay, which made it an ideal retreat for both us and the spaniels!
