South Causey Inn Dog Walk & Breakfast: A Perfect Saturday for Dog Owners

Every first Saturday of the month, the South Causey Inn, situated in Stanley, County Durham, holds a group dog walk followed by breakfast. A couple of my friends and I are always on the look out for places we can get together with the dogs and have a good catch-up! This event sounded perfect.

The walk begins at the South Causey Inn, where we all met at around 8:45am in time to start the walk at 9am. You are met by chief dog walker, Susan at the entrance and after a little chat with some of the other walkers we set off.

My friend, Amanda and her Dad’s dog Rufus had a great time.

The group was just the right size I would say, with all different breeds of dogs. Not too crowded – if you need space you could easily stay at the back. The walk is a circular walk which takes you past a pond, over a couple of fields, before you reach Beamish woods. The sun was shining making the walk really pleasant. Sensible footwear is required as the walk is reasonably paced. It was also muddy due to the snow we’d had that week and it’s important to note that there are gates/stiles to climb over. Everyone was really friendly and we all helped hold each others dogs etc, while climbing over. Susan, the leader would also stop to help everyone, making sure we all stayed together and not leading the group off without everyone being ready. There were times on the walk where we could let the dogs off for a while to let them play, run and socialise. The group walk is a great opportunity to meet other dog owners and share advice and experiences too.

We then reached Beamish Woods, where there were a couple of fallen trees to clamber over from the recent storms but the spaniels had a great time. Willow found a bog and got absolutely filthy but I had a towel back in the car so didn’t worry. From there you reach the road that leads back to the Inn. The walk took approximately just over an hour.

There are dog water stations perfectly situated back at the Inn too where the dogs can quench their thirst after the walk.

On the menu….

Arriving back at the Inn, we were seated in their very comfortable and cosy restaurant where the dogs are also very welcome and breakfast is served until 11:30am

On the menu is a delicious full English breakfast: bacon, sausage, fried egg, beans, tomato, hash brown, black pudding & toast or a vegetarian option. Along with croissant & jam, fresh fruit and yoghurt. Served with a pot of tea or coffee. After a lovely walk we were certainly ready for our breakfast.

The ticket price for the dog walk and breakfast is £15 per person, you need to book your table time for 9:00am. Tickets are available from The South Causey Inn
