Dog-Friendly Glamping Getaway in Cornwall: Penperth Farm Highlights

A hammock, seating area and fire pit are all great features we made the most of during our stay.”

Back in August this year we visited Cornwall for the second time. We usually stay in dog friendly cottages or hotels but this time we wanted something a little different! We have never been camping before and don’t own a single piece of camping equipment even though I would love to try it someday, so I was soon put off that idea on realising how much we would have to buy beforehand. Then while browsing through air bnb I came across Penperth farm glamping horse box

It certainly caught my attention as it is such a unique idea that I had to read more about it. The location and write up looked great so we decided to book it for a week in August.

After a long 7 hour night time drive from the North East down to Cornwall we arrived in St Just In Roseland and pulled into the private car park belonging to Penperth Farm. There is also a farm house on site belonging to the owners family, and Harriet, the owner was always available via text if we needed anything. Once we had parked up we had a wander around to check everything out.

From the car park, down a few steps and to the left is a private bathroom and utility room, for guests only, which I was certainly impressed with and the amenities provided were excellent. Your own private shower and wc along with a large fridge freezer, washer/dryer, iron/ironing board, hair dryer and a selection of games and books. Harriet has definitely thought of everything and even provides washing powder.

Along a pretty walkway (beautifully lit at night) you reach the horse box. Once inside the horse box we were greeted with a gorgeous welcome pack which included local produce such as cornish tea, fudge, teacakes and of course dog biscuits for Willow and Bobby. We found it a very cosy space. Sleeping 3 comfortably there is a double bed accessed by a ladder and a sofa bed. All bed-linen was provided and everything deep cleaned prior to our visit – in line with covid regulations. The fitted kitchen includes a hob and microwave aswell as a kettle and small milk fridge. The kitchen sink has fresh water which comes straight from a natural nearby spring and also hot water for washing up. We were also provided with all the cutlery and crockery we would need while staying there. Again well thought out and everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. For the chilly autumn and winter months there is a heater inside the horsebox to keep you nice and cosy.

For night-time toilet visits there is also a toilet inside the horsebox, this was handy as you don’t want to have to walk to the bathroom during the night.

Another great feature was the separate dining room which can be used when the weather isn’t great or if its a warm dry evening lower down the back door and eat your meal whilst enjoying a lovely view and sunset.

Separate eating area.

The outside space at Penperth Farm certainly won’t disappoint either. We didn’t see a soul while we were there, and we enjoyed peaceful evenings in the garden. Willow and Bobby had the whole field to themselves and they enjoyed running around chasing the ball and playing. One evening we even caught sight of an eagle circling over head which was a wonderful sight. A hammock, seating area and fire pit are all great features that we made the most of during our stay. (unlimited logs are available in return for a small donation )

Roasting marshmallows on the fire pit and having a bbq were all highlights.

Overall Penperth Farm provides a unique, rustic experience that can be enjoyed by all the family. We definitely got back to basics with a week of no WiFi or TV yet still enjoyed home from home comforts and a great location, perfect for exploring the Roseland Peninsula.

For our first glamping experience I’m so glad we chose here.
